How It Works

The Interview Process

Here's exactly what happens during an AI phone interview.

Before the Interview

  1. Candidate receives an invitation (SMS or email) with a link
  2. They click the link when ready
  3. They see a landing page explaining what to expect
  4. They click "Start Interview"
  5. Their phone rings within seconds

During the Interview

  1. Greeting: The AI introduces itself using your configured initial greeting
  2. Questions: The AI asks each question in order, waiting for responses
  3. Follow-ups: Based on answer depth settings, the AI may ask for more detail
  4. Candidate Questions: If enabled, candidates can ask about the role
  5. Closing: The AI delivers your end-of-interview message
  6. Hang Up: The call ends

How the AI Behaves

  • Natural conversation: The AI sounds human and responds naturally to what candidates say
  • Handles interruptions: If a candidate interrupts or goes off-topic, the AI guides them back
  • Clarifies when needed: If an answer is unclear, the AI asks for clarification
  • Stays on track: The AI keeps the interview focused and moving forward
  • Professional tone: Maintains a friendly but professional demeanour throughout

Interview Statuses

  • Not Started: Invitation sent but candidate hasn't begun
  • In Progress: Candidate is currently on the call
  • Completed: Interview finished successfully
  • Abandoned: Candidate hung up before completing
  • Failed: Technical issue prevented completion

After the Interview

  1. The call recording is transcribed
  2. The transcript appears on the candidate's interview page
  3. You can review the transcript
  4. Generate an evaluation to get scores and a summary
  5. Workflows run automatically based on the evaluation

Typical Duration

Most screening interviews last 5-15 minutes depending on:

  • Number of questions

  • Whether candidate questions are enabled
  • How detailed the candidate's responses are

Technical Requirements

Candidates need:

  • A working mobile phone that can receive calls

No app download or special software is needed.
